JOHANNESBURG - The Junior Mining Council has applauded Operation Vala Umgodi.
It is this operation that has seen police cut off entrances to mine shafts being used by illegal miners in the North West Province to receive supplies of food and water.
Some have resurfaced and a rescue operation has been launched to help weak miners to the surface.
The Junior Mining Council has called for unified action with communities to tackle illegal mining.
