JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water says Level 2 water restrictions may come into effect.
The utility says demand for water remains higher than what the system can provide.
Senior manager Logan Munsamy says the city consumes over 1.7 million litres a day.
He says that's a huge gap in terms of what can be supplied.
Illegal water connections a major concern
Joburg Water has also embarked on a disconnection drive to cut off all illegal connections.
The entity says it's losing so much water to defaulters, and hijacked buildings.
The water authority recently disconnected about 20 buildings in the Joburg CBD, and says it will be looking into other areas as well.
