Joburg explosion | Blast hits brakes on taxi operations

JOHANNESBURG - Santaco is worried about the effect of road closures in the Joburg CBD.

The busy Lilian Ngoyi Street, popularly known as Bree, is one of the roads closed due to the explosion.

Santaco Gauteng secretary Graham Fritz says about 30 taxis were damaged.

It's now appealing to the Transport Department for help.

"Definitely it is a big disruption. That is a lifeline for Joburg," he said.

"The road closures that will affect us a lot are in those areas.

"Remember, operating licences are dedicated to specific roads," Fritz said.  

"The transport department will have to come on boards to assist us with that as well.”
