JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg is asking Eskom for an urgent three-day reprieve from rolling blackouts to deal with escalating faults and outages during torrential rains.
Joburg Mayor Mpho Phalatse says while progress is being made addressing outages that occurred since last week’s flooding, continuous rainfall means more faults are being logged all the time.
City Power is concerned that the rolling power cuts are not only causing additional faults and stress to the network but preventing it from attending effectively to problems.
Phalatse says the City has submitted the urgent request to Eskom on behalf of City Power.
On Monday, City Power was dealing with over 4,000 service calls related to outages.
Areas hardest hit include Roodepoort, Hursthill, Northcliff and Lenasia.
