Inquiry into Marshalltown fire resumes

JOHANNESBURG - The Commission of Inquiry into the Marshalltown fire resumes today.

It was halted in October due to the Parktown venue being too small and unsafe to accommodate everyone.

A total of 77 people died in August when a fire broke out at a hijacked building.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi established the committee to look into circumstances of the blaze.

It will also make recommendations on whether someone should be held accountable.

The city owns the Usindiso building but it was hijacked after a women's shelter operating there closed in 2014.
