JOHANNESBURG - Extreme cold, snow, and wind are expected over the Eastern Cape causing concerns for initiates.
The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs is calling on initiation camps to prepare for extreme conditions.
It's urging schools to ensure the men in the camps have proper shelter, warm equipment and supplies.
The department says the extreme cold weather poses a threat to life and could cause hypothermia.

It's also warning that some areas may be inaccessible due to snow.
The South African Weather Service has issued a Level 6 warning for disruptive snow.
