JOHANNESBURG - Workers at Impala Platinum have embarked on what the company describes as an illegal strike on Monday.
Implats says it is closely monitoring the underground protest, which began this morning, at both the North and South shafts at Bafokeng Rasimone Mine.
Management has since suspended mining operations at the two shafts and recalled all employees from the underground working areas.
As of 3pm Monday afternoon there were over 2,205 employees still underground.
The miners are yet to share their demands with mine management.
Johan Theron, Implats Group executive for corporate affairs, spoke with eNCA.
