JOHANNESBURG - Community activists in Riverlea are demanding more police resources be sent to bring an end to illegal mining in the area.
Residents accuse zama zamas of digging under their homes and increasing the risk of structural damage and collapses.
Over 100 illegal miners have been arrested in the past week after police raided the area following a shootout between rival gangs.

Despite the arrests, community activists say there's still a long way to go to win the battle.
Meanwhile, the Mineral Resources and Energy Department says it's found over 6,000 holes used by zama zamas to access abandoned mines across the country.
Gauteng police say their operations will continue on Thursday.
