PRETORIA - The situation of the miners underground was at the centre of a legal challenge on Thursday.
The Pretoria High Court heard an application bought by the Society for the Protection of our Constitution seeking an interdict to prevent police from barring the supply of food water and medicine to the illegal miners underground.

The organisation was granted an interim interdict on Saturday that ordered police to allow the illegal miners to be rescued.
Meanwhile lawyers representing the respondents which include the ministers of police and others, said the applicant failed to show that the rights of the miners to life, dignity and health.
Judge Brenda Neukircher reserved judgement.
