Illegal mining | DNA tests begin to identify the deceased in Stilfontein

JOHANNESBURG - In response to the ongoing rescue operation at Stilfontein last week, the North West Health Department put several forensic pathology services on standby to handle the large number of casualties.

The department is ensuring proper identification and care through DNA tests and postmortems.

Medical personnel were also bolstered to assist with the surge in cases.

Meanwhile, the department is also urging the public and media to refrain from spreading misinformation that could undermine these efforts.

North West Health Spokesperson, Tshegofatso Mothibedi discussed the progress and process of identifying the bodies with eNCA.
