JOHANNESBURG - The Independent Electoral Commission is urging youth to register to vote for next year's general elections.
The commission on Wednesday kicked off its 2023 Youth Voter Campaign at Rhodes University.
The campaign aims to educate youth at tertiary institutions about their civic and democratic rights and responsibilities, amongst other issues.
IEC vice-chairperson Janet Love said: "We certainly do see a huge challenge in engaging young people to make sure that young people see the importance of voting.
"It's more around questions of who to vote and what is the impact of that vote, is it going to change lives...in order to ensure that your voice can be heard and counted, you do need to register, it's really important to vote."
