Hundreds homeless after strong winds rip through Khayelitsha

CAPE TOWN - Khayelitsha is already reeling from the severe weather hitting the Western Cape.

Gale-force winds ripped through six informal settlements in Ward 99, leaving a trail of destruction.

Residents are bracing for further damage as more extreme weather has been forecast.

The Gift of the Givers has moved in to provide assistance.

Hundreds homeless after winds rip through Khayelitsha

The humanitarian organisation has advised people living in the informal settlements to evacuate if they can. 

This comes after warnings of inclement weather this weekend. 

The Gift of the Givers says they are running short of resources to assist. the organisation's Ali Sablay says residents should try and move away from danger in any way possible.
