JOHANNESBURG - Mpumalanga has the highest HIV prevalence in South Africa.
It's surpassed KwaZulu-Natal, which for some time used to be the most worrying province for authorities.
Roughly 890,000 people were living with HIV in the province in 2022.

These stats emerged from a Human Sciences Research Council study, released on Monday.
It shows that 7.8 percent of Mpumalanga youth aged between 15 and 24 live with the virus.
It was one-and-a-half times more prevalent among males than females in this age group.
