Health minister says new COVID variants possible

JOHANNESBURG - Health Minister Joe Phaahla, says new variants of COVID-19 may be on the horizon.

This follows growing fears of a sixth wave soon.

The government is calling on people to vaccinate to minimise the effects.

In June, the country saw an end to the fifth wave, which was described as mild.

Phaahla says they're closely monitoring the caseload and should they need to make changes and announcements they'll do so.
