Hawks raid house, business premises over Thembisa Hospital tender scandal

JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks have raided a house and business premises in Ekurhuleni in a probe into alleged corruption at Thembisa Hospital.

They conducted search and seizure operations at a house in Bedfordview, as well as offices in Germiston and Edenvale.

Electronic devices and documents have been seized in the operation as part of the Hawks' ongoing investigation into alleged tender irregularities.

Up to R1-billion worth of tenders are under scrutiny at the Gauteng Department of Health.

The Hawks raided Thembisa Hospital towards the end of last year, looking into hundreds of companies and individuals suspected of manipulating tenders, inflating prices and paying kickbacks.

No arrests have yet been made.
