Hawks arrest eight official linked to tender fraud
JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks have arrested eight suspects, including high-ranking officials from the Eastern Cape Premier's office.
They're all facing allegations of fraud linked to a tender worth R20m.
The emergency procurement of 72 temporary classrooms and furniture was made by the national Education Department.
The beneficiaries were meant to be pupils in Gqeberha and Uitenhage.
However, the whole tender process was deemed to be improper.
The service provider who won the tender, is allegedly closely linked to senior officials from the premier's office.
The delivery of the classrooms were never completed and funds vanished.
