Gun Free SA planning to sue SAPS

JOHANNESBURG - Illegal firearms continue to be a cause for concern in South Africa.

Gun Free SA is planning to sue the SAPS on behalf of families who lost their lives, or were injured by stolen guns, meant to be destroyed.

The organisation says it’s time to hold the police accountable for their negligence.

Adele Kirsten said, "One of the concerns is that this continues that there's ongoing movement of weapons from the legal market to the illicit market."

"It would become clear that SAPS is doing very little to taking the weapons off our street."

"There must be some kind of compensation from the state for the pain and suffering and loss that they've had as a result of corruption officers that sold firearms and landed in the wrong hands."
