Groblersdal assault accused back in court

GROBLERSDAL - The bail application for Pieter Groenewald and his son Stephan resume at the Groblersdal magistrate's court.

The two men are accused of assaulting and setting dogs on an employee.

Groenewald senior has two previous convictions in 1990 -- one for murder and another for attempted murder -- and claims he is not a flight risk.

The case has attracted huge crowds who have been protesting outside the court, saying there are often racial tensions in the town.

At the last court appearance, a group of protesters demanding the pair's release clashed with police.
