GP Health Department coughs up R620m for malpractice

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Health has paid R620-million in medic-legal claims.

And, the big headache for the department seems to be turning into a migraine.

It spent a similar amount on lawyers and state legal services, taking the total cost to R1.8-billion.

“This amount is an amount that has accumulated over a period of time," said Motalatale Modiba, Gauteng Health spokesperson.
