Health Department had previously said the ban was to ensure consumer safety while working on a plan to involve the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority.
Producers of cannabis and hemp food products challenged this ban and said this policy could see investors interested in the industry pulling out.
Motsoaledi says the department was concerned by a number of products that entered the country under the disguise of being food which ended up being consumed by children.
