Govt wants 2G, 3G networks shut down by 2027
JOHANNESBURG - The Communications Ministry wants to phase out 2G and 3G networks by December 2027.
That's to make space for newer 4G and 5G technologies. But, the Association of Communications and Technology is asking why government is imposing deadlines.
It says the industry will know the best time to switch off.
Companies like Transnet still use 2G tech for communications and would have to undergo expensive upgrades.
