GBV epidemic | "Justice delayed is justice denied"

JOHANNESBURG - Gender-based violence continues to rise, but there's seldom justice according to GBV activist Siyamthanda Ndlela.

She says it's baffling that a year has passed and there still aren’t any answers or arrests in the Namhla Mtwa murder case.

Mtwa was shot repeatedly outside her Eastern Cape home.

Ndlela said, "we have been working towards Namhla’s case and I have been in communication with the SAPS detectives in Mthatha trying to push that we should have an arrest by now… Unfortunately, the case is no longer with the local police or our provincial office, its in the national office."

"So we have no power to push anything that side. It is frustrating that after a year there’s been no arrests. It’s becoming a norm in the area of Mthatha where we have people who are gunned down and nothing happens."
