JOHANNESBURG - The US embassy says projects funded under the President’s Emergency Plan for AidsRelief - Pepfar - are safe until the end of April.
The programmes are exempt from US President, Donald Trump’s decision to stop funding to South Africa.
Elon Musk announced in early February that USAID's humanitarian agency would be 'shutting down', a move intended to reduce US government spending.
Musk called USAID a 'criminal organisation' that they had to get rid of. This has resulted in some organisations in South Africa shutting down services.
The African Centre for Disease Control has urged the government to find alternative forms of funding. President Donald Trump in the signing of the Executive Order, also cut development aid for 90 days, pending a review.
