Fighting continues in Sudan despite ceasefire

KHARTOUM - A 24-hour humanitarian ceasefire in Sudan has been broken.

Heavy fighting was reported in the capital, Khartoum.

Explosions shook the city on Tuesday despite the two warring generals declaring a temporary truce.

The regular army and the paramilitary, Rapid Support Forces, blame each other for the violation.

The groups are fighting over the integration of armed groups into the army and over who will lead the military.

The RSF originated in the Janjaweed Militia that fought in Darfur in the 2000s.

A weeks-long power struggle exploded into deadly violence on Saturday.

The four days of fighting have already claimed almost 200 lives.
