Father of late Soweto child thanks government, community for support

JOHANNESBURG - Joseph Sathekge, the grieving father of six-year-old Monica, says he hopes the police will thoroughly investigate the deaths of his daughter and five other children - even if that won't bring them back.

He says government and the public have given them immense support in this difficult time.

Five of the six children who died, allegedly after consuming poisoned food from a local spaza shop, have been buried.

Joseph Sathekge said, 'I'm hoping the SAPS find everything."

"They did help us. Everybody helped us, the Education Department, all the people from government, every day they did their best and we're so happy because when I saw that my child was gone, something was running in my mind."

"How am I going to bury my child?"

"God intervened in a different way, everything, what we had was through the government and the people."

"I salute what they did. They gave us hope that now, it's the government of the people. They're still going to look more into the society. They did everything they could."
