CAPE TOWN - Residents of Blikkiesdorp in the Western Cape say they have been waiting for over 16 years for houses promised to them by the City of Cape Town.
Land in Symphony Way in Delft was finally secured and a contractor was appointed to build more than 2,500 houses.
And just when the Blikkiesdorp beneficiaries thought their dreams were being realised, a city official was shot dead on the site in February 2023.
The project has been brought to a standstill following more violence and threats of extortion.
eNCA's Ayesha Ismail reports that the City of Cape Town says it is in the process of finalising a new contractor.
