DURBAN - The eThekwini Municipality is accusing its workers of holding them to ransom.
They say staff refuse to work any overtime after it placed a cap on the number of extra hours allowed to be worked in a given month.
To date, some workers have claimed as much as 200 hours in overtime in a single month.
Workers are digging in their heels and it's led to disruptions in water and sanitation services across the metro.

The South African Municipal Workers Union in eThekwini says the municipality is the one holding its members hostage.
It accuses the city of implementing a circular with the new working hours without consultation.
