eThekwini expects Comrades Marathon to run coffers up by R208m

DURBAN - The eThekwini Metro expects the Comrades Marathon to run up its profits column.

It's co-hosting the 97th Comrades Marathon with over 21,000 athletes and 63,000 spectators.

The city expects to add over R515-million to the city's GDP.

It also expects almost a thousand job opportunities to be created.

The marathon attracts runners from around the country, the continent and the world.

With them come families, fans, spectators and the media.

The city says these visitors are expected to spend around R210-million.
