JOHANNESBURG - Eskom has served the City of Joburg with a notice of intention to interrupt power supply due to unpaid debt.
Eskom says the city and its utility, City Power, owes almost R5-billion for bulk electricity.
The utility says outstanding debt is putting a strain on its already dire financial situation.

It is threatening to cut off power supply to the city at predetermined times of the day.
Meanwhile, the metro has called Eskom's move counterproductive and unjust.
It's urging the power utility to retract its notice and negotiate in order to find a solution.
