JOHANNESBURG - Eskom says it is ready to roll out the prepaid meter initiative.
The power utility is confident it will meet the November 2024 deadline to have more than six million meters recoded across the country.
Out of the 11 million meters, Eskom is responsible for updating over 6 million.
The remainder will be under municipalities with authorized power distribution zones.
Prepaid customers need to ensure their meters are upgraded so they can continue to buy electricity.
After the expiration date, the current prepaid meter software will stop accepting credit tokens.
Eskom says its Phase 1 deployment, which has been underway for a little over a month, has been a success so far.
