JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Education admits overcrowding remains a challenge in the province.
It says correct pupil-teacher ratios are not being met in high-pressure communities.

Spokesperson Steve Mabona says this is because the department is trying to accommodate all pupils.
"We've never at some point denied the fact that as Gauteng we're pressured when it comes to capacity. We cannot be in a position to, more especially in the pressured areas, to accommodate as per the ratio, which is something that we're seeing and we know that," he said.
"We try by all means to accommodate as many learners as possible."
