JOHANNESBURG - There are enough teachers in the country.
They are just not being trained to teach the right subjects.
That's one of the outcomes of Unesco's Teacher Task Force summit looking at global educator shortages.
Experts say the 24,000 teachers produced each year are enough to satisfy demand.
But there’s a mismatch when it comes to the skills required in the classroom.
Many teachers are not adequately trained in the STEM subjects of Science, technology and maths.
There is also concern about the lack of mother tongue teachers.
