GQEBERHA - More than 1,000 people are staying in community halls and churches in Gqeberha after being evacuated from their homes.
Heavy downpours battered parts of the Eastern Cape, causing flooding.
Affected areas include Motherwell, New Brighton and KwaZakhele in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro. The metro says a number of roads have been damaged.
Residents have been aided by the Gift of the Givers organisation and disaster teams.
No casualties have been reported.
Disaster management teams are monitoring the situation.
