He's promised drastic changes under his leadership, to be in place by the end of the seventh administration.

Mabuyane has issued a stern warning to members of his administration - to either shape up or step down from office.

He's also hinted that there won't be many changes to his cabinet.

He said, "I believe the cabinet has done really well I subscribe to the philosophy to say if it is not broken why fix it?"

The ANC in the province achieved an over 62 percent majority during the recent elections. The leader of the opposition believes the party's support may dwindle if they don't right their wrongs over the next five years.

The ANC's national decline has been attributed to lower voter turnout, more political parties contesting in the elections and the loss of the urban black vote.

Mabuyane says they will also address these challenges.

Helen Sauls-August has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Provincial Legislature with Vuyo Jali as the newly elected Deputy Speaker.
