Eastern Cape family losing hope as floods persists

DUNCAN- Trapped in a dilapidated home with nowhere to go. 

That's the tragic story of a Signoria Fritz in the Eastern Cape who says she feels helpless when heavy rain wreaks havoc at her Duncan Village home.

Making matters worse for Fritz and her husband, is that they are both living with a disability and are unable to find work.

The Buffalo City Metro and other parts of the Eastern Cape have been battered by heavy rains since the weekend.

Gift of the Givers Cornene Conradie said there is a huge lack of housing in the province which often sees the same recidents being victims repeatedly.

Conradie said food parcels and relief aid can only last for so long but a permanent solution is indeed needed.

Buffalo City Metro spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya acknowledged that many flood victims suffer the same fate repeatedly, but said there are plans to address the housing crisis.
