KOMATIPOORT - With traffic volumes surging ahead of the Easter weekend, the Border Management Authority (BMA) has intensified operations at key ports of entry.
The BMA Commissioner Dr. Michael Masiapato says to date they have since processed over 16,000 people and 1,600 trucks in just 24 hours.

He says their major multi-disciplinary operation is in full swing and authorities are clamping down on illegal crossings, human trafficking, and contraband.
"In terms of interceptions we have been doing a lot of work with the assistance of drones. Yesterday we were able to intercept around 36 individuals trying to enter the country illegally.
"Today it was around 38 intercepts. So overall we talk about 74 people who we have intercepted," Masiapato said.
According to the commissioner out of those who were intercepted, four of them were facilitators and have been taken to the Komatipoort police station to face the full might of the law.
