JOHANNESBURG - Over a thousand road users have been arrested since the start of the Easter long weekend on Thursday.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation has also impounded 900 vehicles.
Road users were arrested for various offences such as drunken driving, fake licences and driving recklessly.
Most of the impounded vehicles were seized in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga for not having public transport permits.
Almost 76,000 vehicles were stopped and checked and over 900,000 drivers were fined.
The RTMC says a major concern is unroadworthy vehicles.
The licences of 274 vehicles with defects have been suspended.
