DURBAN - The eThekwini municipality has been under pressure to complete repairs to damaged infrastructure
after the April floods.
Sewage spills ending up in the ocean forced the closure of beaches, with high levels of E.coli also detected.
But with the festive season fast approaching, the municipality was in the race against time to reopen.

Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda declared Umhlanga beach safe for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Not so, argues the opposition DA, challenging the mayor to go for a swim.
