DRC's deadly Mpox surge - Soaring cases and fatalities
KINSHASA - The African Union health agency reports that Africa has seen 18-thousand, seven hundred and 37 suspected or confirmed mpox cases this year.
There have been a staggering twelve hundred new cases in just the past week.
The Democratic Republic of Congo, hardest hit by the outbreak, has reported one thousand and five cases of the new Clade 1b strain and 24 deaths over the same period.
This strain was first detected in September 2023 and has spread to all 26 provinces in the DRC, affecting the nation’s 100 million people.
The rapid rise in cases underscores the urgent need for heightened health measures and international support.
