WASHINGTON, DC - South Africa's newly appointed ambassador to the United States, Ebrahim Rasool has wieghed in on South Africa-US relations and geopolitical alignment
He says some American lawmakers have misunderstood the country's policy of "non-alignment" as tacit support for Russia's invasion of the Ukraine.
Rasool, who is doing his second stint in Washington DC, stressed that South Africa had no ideological or political warmth towards Russia.
But acknowledged the need to trade with Moscow and BRICS partners from the global south,
so that emerging markets could grow their economies.
- eNCA's Zayn Nabbi sat down with the ambassador for this exclusive interview in Washington DC.
