JOHANNESBURG - Gangs in certain areas of Cape Town have profited from extortion and make as much money from these activities as they do from selling drugs.
This is according to a new report by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organised Crime.

The report titled 'The Shadow Economy: Uncovering Cape Town’s Extortion Networks', found extortion is a rapidly worsening problem throughout South Africa.
Jenni Irish-Qhobosheane, researcher at the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organised Crime and author of the report, spoke to eNCA.
