JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's high crime rate extends to the cyber space,
with smartphones and digital devices often targeted by criminals.
Smart devices are also used to facilitate kidnappings, which are on the rise.
Cybersecurity consultant Lucas Molefe says once someone makes their location accessible they become vulnerable to criminals who have intentions of targeting them.

These locations according to Molefe are often made available when one individuals check in to leisure places.
"Whoever is following you is able to look up your location," he said.
He urged parents to be cautious on what their children post, this includes exposing their location.
He says if there is a need to share location it should be to someone close to you like family. '
