Discussion | Beware of unauthorised glucose monitoring devices

TZANEEN - Health authorities are concerned about the dangers of unauthorised glucose monitoring devices.

While these gadgets can offer valuable insights, their use without proper oversight could lead to serious risks.

This is according to Diabetologist, Dr Elias Maowasha as diabetes affects millions across South Africa.

Maowasha say a  Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) device consists of a sensor and a transmitter.

He says the transmitter can be connected to an individual phone which allows one to read numbers.

Maowasha urged the importance of also verifying the number.

""To ensure that the numbers are accurate. It is important to read the glucose reading on the app and compare it with the glucose meter in the house. The difference should not be more than 10%." he says.
