Digital facial reconstruction | Experts roped in to identify five deceased

CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police have roped in scientific and visual analysis to help identify five unknown corpses.

Their remains were discovered in four Cape Town suburbs between 2020 and last year.

Experts forming part of the Western Cape Cold Case Consortium have collaborated on this pilot project aimed at tracking down the relatives of the deceased.

The decomposed remains of the five unknown corpses were discovered in Philippi East, Mitchells Plain, Mowbray and Lentegeur.

Findings from various fields within forensic science were used to produce these images.

Police say they have already received a number of enquiries from the public after these images were released.

Experts are stressing the importance of being flexible around times and adapting to ever-changing technological advancements.

Police say if this approach leads to identifying any of the deceased, they’ll use this platform to help solve other cases too.
