Diepsloot residents hit back at Eskom over cutoffs

JOHANNESBURG - Most of Gauteng's Diepsloot residents were in the dark on Tuesday night.

They've admitted to connecting to the grid illegally.

Eskom says that, besides illegally connected infrastructure, it's picked up that some residents buy their electricity from unregistered vendors.

These developments emerged as the utility disconnected transformers in the area, north of Johannesburg.

But residents say connecting to illegal transformers is a means to an end because their pleas to Eskom have fallen on deaf ears.
