The union however has dismissed claims the health department finances are not in order.

The Gauteng Health Department has come under fire for the poor state of hospitals and care in the province,

Union Denosa says the department is not solely to blame.

Denosa Gauteng chair Simphiwe Gada said,"We must also look at unfinished projects which by the way have contributed to the finances of health because DID was just utilizing the same budget for health to implement projects at exorbitant prices.”

The union has also dismissed reports of the department’s finances being in disarray, instead calling on the provincial government to account.

Denosa says calls for the health MEC to step down are disingenuous.

Meanwhile the nursing union has also called for the establishment of a health infrastructure fund, to help deal with some of the challenges facing the sector.
