JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance says the decision by the Congress of the People to terminate the membership of Colleen Makhubela has destabilised the Joburg City Council even more.
The DA says this decision strengthens their call to dissolve the council.
Makhubele was axed by COPE after she allegedly signed the party up for an alliance with the newly coalition pact, the South African Rainbow Alliance.
COPE refuted Makhubele's claims and decided to cut ties with her. In addition Makhubele appears to be at the forefront of SARA's campaign as she appears in the Alliance's posters.
The DA in Johannesburg says Makhubele's position as the speaker of the city council hangs in the balance. DA's Joburg caucus leader, Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku says no formal statement by COPE as been brought to the council.
She says Makhubele is to remain the city council speaker for now until they have been informed by the city manager.
