DA: Dissolve the national energy crisis committee

JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance is suggesting President Cyril Ramaphosa dissolve the National Energy Crisis Committee.

It wants him to appoint an independent industry expert, and cut red tape when it comes to hiring.

DA leader John Steenhuisen said, "there are a number of steps additional steps which DA has already called for on numerous occasions that still need to be put in place."

"The first of this these is the immediate declaration of a ring fenced state of disaster around Eskom…The second is the firing of Minister Gwede Mantashe."

"It is incomprehensible that he has managed to remain in this crucial position despite his multiple failures."

"He is responsible for the dysfunctional regulatory framework that has prevented our energy sector’s recovery, and repeatedly blocked renewable energy projects and has allowed Risk Mitigation Power Producer Procurement Programme to stall.”
