DA calls for heads to roll after Parliament fire report release

CAPE TOWN - The people who made the security decisions that left parliament vulnerable must be fired says the DA Chief Whip, Siviwe Gwarube.

She was responding to findings that the fire that destroyed Parliament in 2022 could have been prevented.

A report has detailed ways in which the fire could have been stopped from spreading further which includes maintenance and increased security.

According to Parliament Secretary, Xolile George the fire could have been prevented.

Zandile Mafe is accused of starting the fire in the building in Jan 2022, but its not clear he is mentally fit to stand trial.
A summary of the report released on Wednesday makes it clear the historic site was left vulnerable to intruders because of a series of bad decisions made about guarding the facility.
