JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Bheki Cele released the latest quarterly crime statistics on Tuesday.
According to the data, there were almost 6,300 more cases of contact crimes.
The DA's Andrew Whitfield says since Cele took over, there has been an increase in murders.
He says this is due to poor leadership in the SAPS.
"A massive problem with the South African police is poor training and inadequate resourcing in rural community," says Whitfield.
He goes on to sys that police officers lock themselves in the stations while South Africans are fearful in their homes.
"SAPS are losing highly-trained personnel," he adds.
